Every winter, thousands of Hyderabadis pack their bags and head 620 kilometres east — not for a beach holiday, but for misty mountains, fresh coffee aroma, and the magical Araku Valley.
If you’re reading this in December 2025, chances are you’re already dreaming of escaping Hyderabad’s dry heat to Araku’s 8–15°C winter heaven. You’ve come to the right place.
I’ve done this trip more than 15 times in the last three years with Aman Self Drive customers. This is the exact guide I wish I had on my first trip — no tables, no fluff, just pure experience and every detail you actually need.
Why This Trip Will Be Your Best Memory of 2025
Imagine driving through endless Eastern Ghats as the sun rises over the Godavari, stopping at a small tribal coffee plantation where they roast beans right in front of you, walking inside million-year-old Borra Caves with natural skylights, and waking up to the sound of birds in a valley that looks straight out of Switzerland.
That’s Araku. And the best way to experience it? Your own car. No fixed itinerary, no waiting for buses, no sharing space with strangers.
The Only Route You Should Take in 2025
There are two ways to reach Araku from Hyderabad. 99% of our customers choose Route 1 via Ananthagiri — and for very good reasons.
Hyderabad → Vijayawada → Rajahmundry → Visakhapatnam → Ananthagiri Hills → Araku Valley
Total distance: 620–630 km | Driving time: 11–12 hours non-stop (most people break it with overnight in Vizag)
The highway till Vizag is butter-smooth 4-lane NH16. After Vizag, the real magic begins — 70 km of winding ghat roads surrounded by coffee plantations and waterfalls. This stretch alone is worth the entire trip.
The Perfect 3-Day Itinerary (Tested 100+ Times)
Day 0 – Night Drive from Hyderabad
Pick up your car from Aman (we have 24×7 counter at RGIA Airport, Gachibowli, Kukatpally or doorstep). Start at 8–9 PM after dinner. The roads are empty, you’ll reach Vizag by 7–8 AM. Sleep in the car or book a quick 4-hour hotel in Vizag.
Day 1 – Vizag to Araku via Ananthagiri
Have breakfast at Venkatadri Vantillu or Sailaja Restaurant in Vizag, then start the most beautiful 4-hour drive of your life. Stop at:
- Ananthagiri Coffee Plantations (buy fresh beans – ₹400/kg)
- Tyda Nature Camp & Jungle Bells (short trek)
- Galikonda Viewpoint – highest point in Eastern Ghats
Reach Araku by 2–3 PM. Check into your resort and just breathe.
Day 2 – Full Araku Exploration
Wake up early. Visit Tribal Museum (₹100 entry), Padmapuram Botanical Gardens, Chocolate Factory, and the star attraction — Borra Caves. The caves deserve 2 hours minimum. Return before sunset and enjoy bonfire + barbecue at your resort.
Day 3 – Return Journey
Start by 6 AM. You’ll be back in Hyderabad by 7–8 PM with a car full of coffee, bamboo chicken memories and 5,000 photos.
Which Car Should You Book? (Real Recommendations)
